Controversial Karnataka Rasam Ad Sparks Sexism Debate

An outdoor advertisement of a brand selling rasam paste in Karnataka went viral on social media. After a picture of the ad was shared on X, many people slammed it for being ‘sexist.’ However, a few others said that they found no problem with it.

The user Tejas Dinkar posted a screen grab of the advertisement on X. “Today in ads that manage to be sexist while also insulting both North and South India,” he wrote as the post’s caption.

A line on the ad for the rasam paste read, “Wife North Indian? Rasam in seconds!”

January 4 was when this post was shared. After sharing, it received nearly two lakh views. In addition, the post has received a lot of comments and over 2,000 likes. The advertisement startled a lot of people, but some others questioned, “What is sexist in this ad?
