A shocking video has surfaced on social media depicting a man wielding a rifle and opening fire outside a crowded cinema in Liverpool. The footage shows an individual wearing a hoodie and flippers discharging shots inside a shop. The man reportedly entered the store around 8 pm, threatened the store assistant, demanded cash, fired the gun, and ultimately left the premises empty-handed, according to the Evening Standard.
The 49-year-old suspect was apprehended by Merseyside Police after the gunfire incident. The authorities received a call regarding the incident at Sangha newsagents on Lower House Lane in Norris Green on Wednesday night.
The police statement reported, “At around 8.50 pm, officers received a report that shots had been fired at Showcase Cinemas on East Lancashire Road after a man entered the premises carrying a firearm.” The statement also mentioned an earlier incident about 20 minutes prior at a business on Lower House Lane, where the firearm was discharged. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The suspect entered the cinema, threatened two staff members in the foyer, and fired shots in the air before fleeing in a car. Fortunately, no one was injured, and no damage occurred. The cinema complex was put on lockdown, and a manhunt was initiated. Local residents were advised to stay indoors.
Showcase Cinema confirmed their cooperation with the police and investigators. The authorities clarified that the incident was not terror-related but was treated as a major incident. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement is actively pursuing the suspect.
