In a remarkable rescue operation, 19-year-old S Hamsa Gowda was saved after spending 22 harrowing hours trapped in a chest-high, water-filled crevice at Tumakuru’s Mydala lake channel. The ordeal began when Hamsa slipped into the cascading stream while moving between rocks. She was quickly swept into a dark, cave-like space, where she stood alone in the darkness, waiting and hoping for rescue. Despite her injuries, Hamsa remained calm, leaning against the rocky wall to conserve her strength.

Meanwhile, a 60-member team, including fire brigade personnel, police, and locals, tirelessly searched the area. They initially struggled to locate her, halting the search after nightfall. With daylight, the team resumed efforts, constructing temporary barriers to divert water flow from the crevice. When the rescuers finally reached Hamsa, her faint voice guided them through the darkness. After confirming her identity, they carefully led her out. Witnessing Hamsa’s reunion with her mother, Radha, was an emotional moment for everyone involved.

Officials praised Hamsa’s courage, emphasizing how her resilience under such traumatic conditions contributed to her survival. The rescue highlighted both the dedication of the emergency personnel and the young woman’s extraordinary inner strength.
