Udupi: In a heartwarming tribute to dedication and talent, Remona Evette Pereira, who set a world record by dancing non-stop for 170 hours, was felicitated at a grand ceremony held at St Francis Xavier Church Auditorium, Udyavara, on Tuesday. The event was organized by Nirantar Udyavara in collaboration with Lions Club Udyavara Sunshine.

Remona, moved by the overwhelming recognition, thanked her college, St Aloysius, and her dance guru for their unwavering support. She also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Tulunadu, saying, “They came not out of duty, but out of love for art.”

Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi, praised her dedication since childhood, calling her a shining example of what passion and perseverance can achieve. Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar of St Aloysius, lauded her bold spirit, recalling how 6,000 students came together to celebrate her feat — a first in the institution’s history.

Other dignitaries, including Fr Anil D’Souza, Fr Dennis D’Sa, and Lion Sapna Suresh, highlighted Remona’s courage, determination, and her role in empowering women. Anil Lobo, Chairman of MCC Bank, called her deserving of the Padma Vibhushan, stressing her story as one of relentless effort and parental support.

The evening began with a vibrant prayer dance and saw Remona welcomed in a ceremonial procession. The program was compered by Alwyn Danthy, with Steeven Culaco welcoming guests and Lion Gerald Pereira offering the vote of thanks.
