Udupi: The 17th anniversary of the coronation of Mahamandaleshwar 1008 Sri Swami Sadguru Brahmananda Saraswati Maharaj, head of the Jagadguru Peeth of Sri Ram Kshetra Mahasamsthan, was celebrated on Wednesday at Sri Ram Kshetra Mahasamsthan, Kanyadi, with elaborate Vedic rituals and devotional programmes.

Spiritual celebration at Kanyadi

The day-long event began with the chanting of Vedic hymns and rituals performed by scholars and priests, invoking blessings for the well-being of society. Devotees from across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts participated in the celebrations, offering prayers and seeking the blessings of Swamiji.

The Sri Ram Kshetra Mahasamsthan Trust, under whose guidance the event was organised, ensured that thousands of devotees could participate. Cultural and religious programmes were also arranged, with bhajans, satsangs, and spiritual discourses adding to the divine atmosphere.

Swamiji’s role in guiding Hindu society

Speaking on the occasion, Trust Honorary President and former MLA K. Raghupathi Bhatt lauded the contributions of Sri Brahmananda Saraswati Maharaj. He emphasised that Swamiji’s spiritual leadership transcends caste or community boundaries.

“Swamiji is not limited to any one community. He guides the entire Hindu society, and his thoughts are dedicated to the well-being of all Hindus. He has established several branch monasteries and has actively worked in the fields of religion, education, and social service,” Bhatt said.

It was highlighted that Sri Brahmananda Saraswati Maharaj has been honoured with the title of Mahamandaleshwar of South India in recognition of his extensive spiritual and social service.

Contributions and initiatives

Over the years, Swamiji has initiated a number of projects that have benefited not only devotees but also society at large. These include:

  • Establishment of branch monasteries to reach and guide people in different regions.

  • Promotion of religious education alongside social development.

  • Active involvement in building awareness about Hindu traditions and cultural heritage.

  • Beginning work on the construction of a branch of the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya, strengthening the connection between Kanyadi and Ayodhya.

  • Bhatt also recalled the National Religion Parliament organised on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the coronation, describing it as a historic event that left a lasting impression on the minds of the people.

    A revered spiritual leader

Devotees describe Swamiji as a source of strength and guidance, particularly during times of uncertainty. His discourses and writings have inspired many to lead disciplined and spiritual lives. Local leaders and community members present at the anniversary said that his ability to connect with people and address their issues in a compassionate way has made him a revered figure.

    Looking forward

As the celebrations concluded, the organisers reaffirmed their commitment to carrying forward Swamiji’s vision of combining spirituality with social service. Devotees expressed hope that under his leadership, Sri Ram Kshetra Mahasamsthan will continue to expand its reach and influence across India.

The anniversary served not only as a spiritual gathering but also as a reminder of the role religious leaders can play in fostering unity, guiding communities, and preserving cultural values.
