Udupi: In a major breakthrough, Udupi police have arrested a robbery case accused who had been evading court proceedings for over 21 years.
The original complaint dates back to December 25, 2004, when Shoukath Ali filed a robbery case at the Shankaranarayana police station. One of the accused, Farooq from Megralu, Puttur in Kasargod district, disappeared soon after and never appeared in court. A long-pending case (LPC) warrant had remained active against him for years.
Under the supervision of Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar and Additional SP Sudhakar S Naik, a dedicated team was formed on the directions of Kundapur DySP H D Kulkarni and Circle Inspector Jayaram Gowda. The arrest operation was spearheaded by Amasebail Police Sub-Inspectors Ashok Kumar and Chandrappa A K.
Through a detailed investigation and reliable intelligence gathering, the team tracked Farooq to Magadi in Ramanagara district. He was arrested on Monday, July 28.
The team that executed the operation included Head Constable Raghavendra, Constables Parameshappa Hebasooru, Sudhakar, Darshan, Mallesh, and Dinesh from the district police office.
Farooq was produced before the court on Tuesday, July 29, and has been remanded to judicial custody.
