Udupi: In a daring burglary in Udupi’s Mission Compound Junction, a group of three robbers disguised in Karnataka police jackets forcibly entered three government staff quarters and looted valuables worth several lakhs. The thieves broke open the locks in the early hours between 4 and 4:30 am, ransacking entire homes and fleeing with gold, silver, and cash.

Shockingly, the crime occurred within close proximity to the city police station. Despite being alerted immediately, law enforcement had not reached the scene even five hours post-incident, causing public outrage. Residents of the Public Works Quarters raised doubts about the suspiciously delayed police response and criticized their negligence.

Surveillance footage captured the clear faces of the perpetrators, who confidently carried out the robbery. This has left citizens questioning the intention behind the use of official-looking police gear.

This is not the first such occurrence at this location. Nine months earlier, on September 29, 2024, a similar break-in took place in six nearby homes. No arrests were made then, and now, a house right next to one of the previous victims has been targeted again—raising serious concerns about security.

Locals fear a pattern of serial thefts taking root right under the police’s watch, with the same quarters being repeatedly hit. The Udupi City Police have registered a case and claim to be actively investigating, but trust in enforcement is wearing thin.
