Udupi: Burglars broke into a locked house in Korangrapadi village of Udupi and escaped with silver articles valued at around ₹6,000, while the homeowners were away in Abu Dhabi.
Incident details
According to the complaint filed by Vasanth (69), his elder brother Sudhakar (70) and his wife had travelled to Abu Dhabi on August 7 to visit their children. The couple locked their residence before leaving.
On Wednesday morning around 10 am, a neighbour noticed that the back door of Sudhakar’s house was open and alerted Vasanth. When he rushed to the spot, he discovered that unidentified burglars had broken the latch of the back door, entered the premises, and ransacked the cupboards in the bedroom.
From the prayer room, the intruders reportedly stole two silver lamps and a small silver idol of Lord Ganesha, with a total value of about ₹6,000.
Further investigation
The complainant informed police that additional losses, if any, would be reported once his brother Sudhakar returns from Abu Dhabi and inspects the property.
The Udupi Town Police have registered a case under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is underway to trace the culprits.
Community concerns
Residents in the area expressed concern over the burglary, pointing out that such incidents often occur when houses remain locked for extended periods. Locals have urged police to increase night patrolling and surveillance to deter anti-social activities in residential neighbourhoods.
