Udupi: In the early hours of February 9, a pickup truck carrying cattle overturned near Ambagilu Junction, resulting in injuries to two individuals, while a third person fled the scene.
As per reports from the Udupi town police, PSI Puneet Kumar, who was on night patrol, received a distress call from his team around 4 AM, informing him about the mishap. Upon reaching the site, officers discovered a pickup vehicle (KA 22 AA 4697) overturned, with three cattle inside and two others lying injured nearby. The animals suffered wounds on their back and waist.
Two men, identified as Sheetal Ganapati Bagannar and Yamanappa Ramesh Arjun Wad, were found near the wrecked vehicle, while a third suspect, Parashu, managed to escape.
When interrogated about the transportation of the cattle, the duo failed to present any legitimate documents or purchase receipts. They claimed to be shifting the animals from Sankeshwar to Mangaluru.
The injured men were rushed to a hospital, while a veterinary officer examined the cattle. Further legal action was initiated in the presence of witnesses, and the authorities have taken custody of the cattle.
A case has been registered at the Udupi town police station, and an investigation is underway.
