Udupi: A 54-year-old man died after suffering a massive cardiac arrest while preparing to attend a wedding function at Katapady in Udupi district on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Y. B. Abdul Rahman, was a driver with the Solid Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) unit of Manipur Gram Panchayat.
According to family members, Abdul Rahman had completed his routine work for the day and was getting ready to leave for the wedding when he suddenly collapsed after experiencing severe chest discomfort. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
However, doctors declared him brought dead on arrival, stating that he had suffered a massive cardiac arrest. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, colleagues and residents of the locality in deep shock.
Collapsed while preparing for wedding
Family members said Abdul Rahman had returned home after completing his daily responsibilities and was preparing to attend a wedding ceremony at Katapady.
Moments before leaving, he reportedly suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and collapsed. Realising the seriousness of his condition, relatives and neighbours immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital.
Despite their efforts to get him medical attention without delay, doctors were unable to revive him and pronounced him dead on arrival.
The unexpected incident turned what was meant to be a joyful occasion into a moment of grief for the family.
Well known in the community
Abdul Rahman was widely known in the area for his hard work and friendly nature. At the time of his death, he was serving as a driver with the SLRM unit of Manipur Gram Panchayat.
Residents described him as a dedicated worker who carried out his duties with sincerity and maintained cordial relations with people in the locality.
His untimely demise has been mourned by colleagues and members of the community, many of whom remembered him as a humble and dependable individual.
Long working career
Before joining the gram panchayat’s SLRM unit, Abdul Rahman had established A. R. Tailoring at Dendurkatte, where he earned a livelihood through tailoring.
He also spent several years working abroad before returning to his native place. After coming back, he operated his own goods vehicle to support his family and later took up employment as a driver with the SLRM unit.
His varied professional journey reflected years of hard work and determination to provide for his family.

Abdul Rahman is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
His sudden death has caused immense grief among his family members, relatives and friends. Neighbours and well-wishers have been visiting the bereaved family to offer their condolences and support during this difficult time.
