Udupi: In a remarkable act of generosity, the family of Raghavendra, a 35-year-old accident victim from Kundapur, chose to donate his organs, saving multiple lives.

Raghavendra met with an accident on February 17 at 12:20 am and was rushed to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, with critical injuries. Despite extensive medical efforts, his condition worsened, and he was declared brain dead twice by a panel of expert doctors, following the Transplantation of Human Organ Act, 1994.

Honoring his memory, his family made the courageous decision to donate his viable organs. Under the guidelines of Jeevasarthakathe, SOTTO, Bengaluru, his liver and one kidney were transported to AJ Hospital, Mangaluru, while his lungs were sent to KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad. Kasturba Hospital retained one kidney, corneas, and skin for registered transplant patients.

Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, praised the family’s selfless decision, emphasizing that organ donation is a noble act that can transform lives. He urged more people to consider this compassionate choice.
