Udupi: Police have filed a case against four individuals for allegedly assaulting a garbage truck driver near the Karvalu dumping yard in Alevoor village, Manipal.

In his complaint, Paul Vinod Kumar Salins (50), a resident of Mission Compound in Udupi, said the incident occurred around 6:30 PM on Monday. While transporting waste from Malpe, Salins had arrived at the dumping yard to unload garbage after vehicle weighing when the accused confronted him.

The main accused, Ganesh, along with Sharath, Kiran, and another unidentified individual, reportedly came on a two-wheeler and parked near the yard. Ganesh, allegedly wielding a knife, approached Salins, verbally abused him, and accused him of hitting their bike with the garbage truck.

According to the complaint, Ganesh tried to stab Salins in the neck, aiming to kill him. The complainant narrowly escaped but fell to the ground in the process. The others then allegedly assaulted him physically, kicking and hitting him, which caused pain and distress. Ganesh also repeatedly issued death threats before fleeing the scene with his companions.

The Manipal Police have registered a case under Sections 109, 115(2), 352, 351(2), and 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and begun further investigation.
