Udupi: BJP district president Kutyaru Naveen Shetty alleged that the state Congress government has failed to provide adequate compensation for damages caused by recent heavy rains in Udupi district.

Speaking at a press conference at the BJP district office, Shetty said that more than 30 houses in Karkala and Kaup taluks have been partially damaged by storm and rain, yet the government has only provided Rs 6,500 as compensation, which he termed as grossly inadequate.

He added that many farmers have suffered crop losses, but no relief has been announced, pushing them into deeper distress. Roads across the district too have been severely damaged, but no grants have been sanctioned so far, he alleged.

Criticising the district in-charge minister, Shetty said, “The minister is limited to hoisting flags and inaugurating anganwadis. Instead, he should have visited rain-hit areas, conducted a comprehensive study, and ensured suitable compensation. The government must wake up and act immediately.”

BJP leaders Reshma Uday Shetty (district general secretary), Srikanth Nayak (secretary), Diwakar Shetty (finance cell convener), Shivakumar Ambalapady, Girish Anchan, and Srinidhi Hegde were also present.
