Udupi – Hariram Shankar officially assumed responsibilities as the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Udupi district on Thursday. The handover ceremony took place at the SP office in Bannanje, where outgoing SP Dr. Arun Kumar formally transferred duties to the newly appointed officer.
Prior to this role, Hariram Shankar served as SP in the State Intelligence Department, gaining valuable experience in monitoring sensitive law and order issues. Dr. Arun Kumar, the outgoing SP, has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada district.
After taking charge, SP Hariram Shankar addressed the media and made a strong appeal to the citizens of Udupi. He urged the public to avoid giving space to any form of communal provocation, emphasizing that community peace and mutual trust are essential for the district’s progress. He also called on residents to report any incidents or signs of communal disturbance directly to the police.
Shankar assured that firm measures will be taken against anyone involved in illegal activities or attempts to disturb social harmony. He emphasized the importance of police-public cooperation in ensuring a peaceful environment.
Meanwhile, outgoing SP Dr. Arun Kumar stated that the initiatives taken during his tenure to control illegal activities and maintain public order will continue without interruption under the new leadership.
With this transition, Udupi’s law enforcement aims to strengthen community engagement while upholding strict vigilance against divisive elements.
