Diganth, a young boy from Farangipete in Bantwal, who had mysteriously vanished for days, has finally been located in Udupi, putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding his disappearance.
Hailing from a large extended family, Diganth was known for his academic brilliance but had recently become disinterested in studies, increasingly drawn to mobile phones. After being reprimanded by his parents, he impulsively left home, wandering toward a railway track where he hurt his foot. A blood-streaked slipper found nearby fueled speculation, triggering protests and an intensified police hunt.
His unplanned journey took him through multiple cities, including Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Mysuru, and Bengaluru. To sustain himself, he briefly worked at a resort, relied on leftover meals, and managed travel expenses using money he had taken from home. Eventually, he ended up in Udupi, exhausted and penniless.
In a desperate attempt to acquire new clothing, Diganth walked into a D-Mart but was caught trying to leave without paying. A vigilant store employee, recognizing him from news reports, informed the authorities.
Acting swiftly, Dakshina Kannada police collaborated with their Udupi counterparts, securing his safety. He was later placed in a juvenile care facility in Bondel while further proceedings were initiated.
Diganth’s saga sheds light on the emotional struggles of neglected children and the adverse effects of excessive screen time. The case underscores the need for stronger parental attention and mental health awareness.
