Udupi: Human skeletal remains, including a skull and several bones, were discovered in a vacant plot at Ananth Nagar 3rd Cross in Udupi district, prompting Manipal police to launch an investigation.

The remains were found on Wednesday, October 21, when labourers clearing grass and bushes on land adjoining a private apartment complex came across the bones. The discovery was reported to the police, who reached the spot and conducted a search of the area.

The skeletal remains are estimated to be around one year old. They have been collected and sent to a forensic science laboratory for detailed examination.

Labourers discover skeletal remains during clearing work

The discovery took place while workers were clearing vegetation from a vacant plot near a private apartment building in Ananth Nagar’s 3rd Cross.

During the work, the labourers noticed a human skull and several bones lying in the area. Local residents were alerted, and Manipal police were informed at around 4 pm on Wednesday.

Police personnel visited the location and searched the surrounding area to recover the remains. The discovery has raised questions about how the bones came to be at the site and whether they are connected to any reported missing-person or criminal case.

However, the circumstances surrounding the discovery have not yet been established.

Skull, jawbone and several other bones recovered

During the search, police recovered a partial human skull without its lower jaw, a separate lower jawbone, six rib bones, two arm bones and a thigh bone, identified as a femur.

Neck vertebrae and several smaller bone fragments were also found at the location.

The remains were collected as part of the investigation and sent to the forensic science laboratory. Scientific examination is expected to help investigators assess the remains and establish further details.

The reported estimate that the bones are approximately one year old will need to be considered alongside forensic findings. The age of the remains, the identity of the deceased and the circumstances of death have not been conclusively established.

Police investigate how the remains reached the spot

The recovery has prompted investigators to examine different possibilities, including whether the remains were discarded at the vacant plot or whether they are linked to a possible criminal incident.

At this stage, there is no confirmed information establishing how the bones reached Ananth Nagar or whether a crime was committed at the location. Any connection to a missing person or an earlier incident will need to be verified through the investigation.

Police have registered a case and are continuing their inquiry. The forensic laboratory report is awaited and is expected to provide important information to guide the next steps.

Investigators may use the scientific findings, along with other available evidence, to determine the identity of the deceased and establish the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

Forensic report expected to provide crucial clues

Forensic examination will be an important part of the investigation, as the remains were found without an immediately established identity or explanation.

The findings could help authorities assess the skeletal remains and determine what further investigative steps are required. Any conclusions about the cause of death, the identity of the deceased or possible criminal involvement will depend on the evidence gathered.

The incident has drawn attention in the Ananth Nagar area, but police have not yet announced a definitive explanation for the discovery.

The investigation remains ongoing, with Manipal police awaiting the laboratory report before drawing further conclusions.
