Deputy Commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari and Superintendent of Police Dr K Arun recently visited the Indrali Bridge construction site on National Highway 169A, which remains incomplete despite missing its deadline.
The construction of the Indrali Bridge, which began seven years ago, has faced significant public frustration. In response to growing concerns, the contractor provided a written assurance at the Udupi Traffic Police Station to complete the bridge by January 15. However, as of today, the project remains unfinished.
In a statement to the media, Deputy Commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari explained the ongoing challenges. “The work is still in progress, but limited space for additional JCBs, nearby power lines, and heavy vehicular traffic have slowed the pace,” she said. “Despite these challenges, we have instructed the involved parties to finish the project within a month.”
Dr Kumari also provided further details on the remaining work, mentioning that the girder installation would require an additional 10 days. This phase will involve suspending rail traffic for one day and temporarily halting the area’s electricity supply. She assured that coordination with the railway department has already been established to facilitate these necessary actions.
