Karkala: A case has been registered at the Karkala Rural Police Station against the family members of a deceased woman, after her husband alleged that they concealed her health condition before marriage.

Allegations in the complaint

According to the complaint, Chetan married Vinita, daughter of Karunakar Hegde and Kavita, on December 21, 2018. At the time of marriage, Chetan had presented his wife with gold ornaments. The couple later moved to Bengaluru for employment, and on December 29, 2022, they were blessed with a baby boy.

Chetan has alleged that his wife had vision problems even before marriage and had lost sight in her right eye despite undergoing treatment. He further stated that it was later discovered she was also suffering from brain cancer. Despite medical treatment, Vinita passed away on December 18, 2023.

Claim of concealment and deception

Chetan claimed that his father-in-law, Karunakar Hegde, was aware of Vinita’s health problems before marriage but deliberately concealed them. He accused the family of deceiving him by suppressing crucial health information at the time of the wedding.

In addition, he alleged that the family members — including Karunakar Hegde, Vinod, Kavita Hegde, Amita Hegde, and Vishwanath Hegde — not only hid Vinita’s illness but also failed to return the gold ornaments and mobile phone given at the time of marriage, amounting to breach of trust.

Police action

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the accused family members. The charges are being examined, and further investigation will determine the next course of action.

Conclusion

The case highlights the sensitive issues surrounding marriage, trust, and disclosure of health conditions. Police said the matter will be investigated thoroughly before any further legal steps are taken.
