Udupi: Kollur police have arrested the prime accused in connection with a case involving a stray cow that was allegedly dragged away along a roadside in a white Swift Dzire car within the Kollur police station limits.
The incident took place at around 1.30 pm on September 29. CCTV footage showing the cow being dragged by the car subsequently went viral on social media, prompting concern among locals. Following the incident, Kollur police registered a case based on a complaint filed by local residents.
Accused arrested, car seized
During the investigation, police identified and arrested Mohammed Sinan, 20, a resident of a farmhouse in Gulvadi village in Kundapura taluk. The Swift Dzire allegedly used in the incident was also seized by the police.
After his arrest, Sinan was produced before the court as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
Police suspect that two more persons may have been involved in the incident. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the suspected accomplices, while investigators are examining the available evidence and CCTV footage.
Investigation reveals links to cattle theft cases
According to the police, the investigation has also revealed that the arrested accused is allegedly involved in five cattle theft cases registered at different police stations within the Kundapura subdivision.
Police are now examining the circumstances of these cases and investigating whether there are further links between the accused and other incidents of cattle theft reported in the subdivision.
The latest development has brought increased attention to the investigation, particularly after the CCTV footage of the September 29 incident circulated widely on social media.
Police team conducts investigation
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Kundapura Sub-division Deputy Superintendent of Police H.D. Kulkarni and the supervision of Byndoor Circle Inspector Shivakumar.
Kollur Police Station Sub-Inspector Vinay M. Korlahalli led the investigation along with Head Constable Nagendra and Constables Rudresha, Naveen Kumar, Vilas Rathod and Nagaraja.
The police team is continuing its investigation to establish the complete sequence of events and determine the role of the other suspected persons.
With the arrest of the prime accused and seizure of the vehicle, investigators are expected to focus on gathering further evidence and tracing the remaining suspects. Police are also examining the alleged connection with the five cattle theft cases registered in the Kundapura subdivision.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as police make progress in identifying the suspected accomplices and establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
