Suspects taken into custody following daylight attack near Malpe-Kodavoor

Malpe, Karnataka: In a significant breakthrough, Malpe Police on Sunday arrested three men in connection with the brutal daylight murder of Saifuddin, also known as Saif, a rowdy-sheeter and owner of AKMS private bus service. Saif was hacked to death at Salmar near Malpe-Kodavoor on Saturday.

Details of the arrest

The arrested men have been identified as Muhammad Faisal Khan (27) of Mission Compound, Udupi; Muhammad Sharief (37) from Janata Colony, Karamballi, Udupi; and Abdul Shukoor, alias Addu (43), a resident of Krishnapura in Surathkal.

All three suspects were produced before a local court in Udupi following their arrest. Police have confirmed that the arrests were part of a targeted operation to quickly apprehend those responsible for the violent attack.

Investigation process

The investigation was conducted under the supervision of Udupi Deputy Superintendent of Police D.T. Prabhu. A special investigation team was formed, led by Malpe Circle Inspector Ramachandra Nayak, with Malpe SI Anil Kumar D. and a group of police constables assisting in the operation.

Police sources have indicated that the swift arrests were facilitated by CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and coordinated intelligence efforts by the local police. Further details about the motive and whether more arrests are expected have not yet been disclosed.

The incident has shaken the local community, given the public nature of the attack and Saifuddin’s known criminal background. Authorities are urging residents to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed without interference.
