Udupi: Mescom has disconnected the electricity supply to a tourist bungalow located at Brahmagiri due to an outstanding electricity bill exceeding Rs 3 lakh, which had remained unpaid for over a year. Officials from Mescom reported that despite multiple reminders, the authorities responsible for the tourist bungalow failed to address the issue, resulting in the power cut.

The tourist bungalow is a popular location for politicians and officials visiting the city and district. It has hosted numerous high-profile guests, including the in-charge minister, and serves as a venue for various press conferences.

In a tweet addressing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, MLA Yashpal Suvarna expressed concern over the situation, stating, “Mescom officials have cut off the power supply to the Udupi tourist bungalow for non-payment of electricity bills. Mescom has also issued notices to the Padubidri gram panchayat office and the Tenkanidiyur government school. The government does not have the money to pay the electricity bills of its offices. This is the clearest example of the state’s financial insolvency.”

In response, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vidya Kumar acknowledged that the pending bill might be due to delays in fund release from the state government. “I am not aware of the power cut-off, but as soon as funds are sanctioned, necessary action will be taken to settle the pending electricity bill,” she added.
