In the early hours of Thursday, August 1, a sudden rise in the Phalguni River’s water levels led to significant flooding and inundated the homes of approximately eight families in the Kadapu Kari locality along the riverbank. The emergency situation prompted an immediate response from local authorities.

Bantwal tahsildar Archana Bhat swiftly arrived at the scene and coordinated the safe evacuation of the affected families. Bantwal taluk administration and fire department personnel conducted prompt rescue operations, though navigating the river’s debris posed challenges.

The continuous heavy rainfall in recent days had already swollen the Phalguni River, and the overnight downpour caused the water level to rise suddenly, resulting in flooding. Fire department boats were deployed to assist with the rescue efforts.

To ensure safety, power was cut in the area due to Mescom electric wires before the rescue operations commenced. All displaced families were provided temporary shelter at the Polali Sarvamangala Hall.

Tahsildar Archana Bhat stayed on-site to oversee the rescue operations, supported by Gram Panchayat Vice President Radhakrishna Tantri, Kariyangala Panchayat President Radha, and several other local officials and community members including Karthik Ballal, Chandrahase Pallipady, and Bhagirati.

The coordinated effort ensured that all affected individuals were safely relocated and provided with necessary support.
