Udupi: Vidushi Deeksha, a young Bharatanatyam artiste from Aroor village in Brahmavar taluk, is set to create history by completing an extraordinary 216-hour continuous Bharatanatyam performance. The final milestone is expected to be achieved on August 30 at 3:30 pm at the PG auditorium of Dr. G. Shankara Women’s College, Ajjarkad.
She has already crossed the previous record of 170 hours, held by Mangaluru’s Remona Evette Perera, thereby securing her place in the Golden Book of World Records. The extended nine-day dance marathon is being performed under the patronage of Ratna Sanjeeva Kala Mandal, Manipal, with the theme “Navarasa Diya Vaibhavam”, depicting the nine emotions of Indian classical art.
Felicitation ceremony scheduled
Former MLA Raghupathi Bhatt announced at a press conference that a public felicitation programme will be held at the district stadium in Ajjarkad on August 30 at 5 pm.
During the event, Deeksha will be presented with a Golden Book of World Records certificate in recognition of her achievement. The ceremony will see participation from prominent dignitaries including Manish Bishnoi, Asia Chief of Golden Book of World Records, along with public representatives, cultural leaders, government officials and social workers.
