Commuters at Belman village’s bus stand in Udupi district no longer need to search notice boards for bus schedules. A QR code poster, displayed on the stand’s walls, lets travelers instantly access real-time bus information on their smartphones.
The web-based application, designed by a developer and sponsored by JCI Belman as part of its social responsibility initiative, provides details on bus timings and routes from Belman to various destinations. Scanning the QR code redirects users to the app’s homepage, which features upcoming bus schedules.
JCI Belman president Pradeep Shetty explained that the service, launched Monday, initially offered information for buses arriving within 30 minutes, but has since expanded to cover the next 24 hours. The QR code will continue to be updated and enhanced for improved commuter convenience.
“With most people using smartphones today, we wanted to introduce something accessible and efficient,” Shetty said. The concept stemmed from a casual conversation with a friend running an IT firm. Upon discussing local commuters’ struggle to get accurate bus timings, they collaborated on the solution.
Future updates will include nighttime auto-rickshaw contacts, as well as emergency service details like ambulance numbers, government office contacts, nearby hospitals, and medical stores. These additions aim to turn the app into a comprehensive local resource.
This digital leap is set to make Belman bus stand smarter, more commuter-friendly, and aligned with modern travel needs
