Udupi– Continuous downpours over the past 48 hours have led to rivers overflowing their banks in Kundapur taluk, causing flooding at two prominent temples — Kamalashile Sri Durgaparameshwari and Maranakatte Sri Brahmalingeshwara.
The Kubja River, swollen from incessant rainfall, has breached its banks and entered the premises of the Kamalashile temple. This temple, nestled in a flood-prone zone, is known to face such flooding episodes annually during the monsoon, but the current situation is more severe than usual.
Meanwhile, in Maranakatte, the floodwaters have reached the interior portions of the Brahmalingeshwara Temple, causing significant concern among devotees and temple authorities. With waterlogging affecting the sanctum areas, daily rituals and access to the site have been severely hampered.
The heavy rainfall has also submerged low-lying regions nearby, making transportation difficult for residents. Roads are cut off, and movement outside homes has come to a standstill, especially in villages close to the riverbanks.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, while locals remain indoors due to the danger posed by rising water levels. Emergency services have been placed on alert in case of further escalation.
This seasonal deluge has once again highlighted the need for permanent flood management solutions around these heritage religious sites that attract thousands of pilgrims each year.
