Udupi: The Shirva Police have made a significant breakthrough in the June 27 house burglary by arresting a second accused, KE Mohammed, and recovering gold jewellery and an ingot weighing 248.76 grams, worth ₹22.32 lakh.
The theft occurred at the residence of Pavitra Poojarthi on Mattaru Road in Shirva while she and her son were asleep. The intruders broke in through the window using an iron rod and fled with 137 grams of gold worth ₹12.75 lakh.
Initial investigations led to the arrest of Itte Barpe Abubakkar, who confessed to the crime and disclosed that the stolen gold, along with loot from earlier thefts, was handed over to KE Mohammed of Uppala for sale.
Based on this lead, police arrested KE Mohammed and recovered a 182-gram gold ingot linked to multiple thefts registered in Shirva, Padubidri, and Karkala Rural police stations.
The duo has been remanded to judicial custody. The operation was conducted by teams from Shirva and Ajekaru police stations, under the supervision of Udupi SP Hariram Shankar.
