Udupi: The much-awaited Santhekatte service road, a vital route for vehicles heading towards Kundapur, is now open for traffic, marking a major milestone in improving the region’s transportation infrastructure.
The service road’s opening follows directives from MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, who pushed for its expedited completion. This development is expected to significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks near the under-construction underpass, enhancing commute efficiency for locals.
Light vehicles, including buses and those from Kemmannu-Hoode, are now being redirected to the service road. Heavy vehicles will continue using the underpass, ensuring a well-organized flow of traffic. Retention walls have been built along the road to enhance safety, while temporary barricades have been placed where construction is still in progress.
The new arrangement is particularly beneficial for daily commuters, including students, by reducing delays and improving safety measures. Additionally, diverting vehicles onto the service road allows uninterrupted work on the underpass and accelerates the pace of construction.
Work on the bridge connecting both sides of the service road is progressing steadily. The foundation for one half of the underpass is already complete, while the other half remains open to traffic to minimize disruptions.
The operational service road marks a positive step toward efficient and safer commuting, promising long-term benefits for Udupi’s residents and visitors.
