Udupi: As the Christmas and New Year celebrations approach, Udupi City is grappling with severe traffic congestion due to ongoing roadworks on National Highway 66. The roadwork has led to blockages on major city routes as well as interior roads, causing circular traffic jams throughout the area.

The situation has been further exacerbated by the influx of tourists visiting Udupi’s popular attractions, with large buses and tourist vehicles crowding the city’s roads, contributing to the traffic chaos.

Additionally, the ongoing construction work on National Highway 66 at Ambalpadi has led to traffic diversions, resulting in significant blockages at crucial junctions, including Karavali Bypass, Kinnimulki, Ambalpady, and Udyavar. Kilometer-long traffic queues have become a regular sight, particularly during peak hours over the past week.

In response to the congestion, local traffic police, along with residents, have been actively managing the traffic flow, working to alleviate the gridlock in some areas. However, the situation remains challenging as the holiday season continues to bring in more visitors.
