Udupi: A state-level special training programme for the presidents and chief executives of primary agricultural cooperative societies in Udupi district was inaugurated at The Ocean Pearl Auditorium, Kadiyali, on Friday. The event was jointly organised by the Karnataka State Cooperative Federation, Bengaluru, the Udupi District Cooperative Union, and the Udupi District Cooperative Department.
Emphasis on cooperative law amendments
Inaugurating the programme, B. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of the Udupi District Cooperative Union, lauded the cooperatives in Udupi district for contributing 100% of the education fund to the Karnataka State Cooperative Federation this year, the highest in the state.
Shetty emphasised the importance of staying updated with the latest amendments to cooperative acts, highlighting that cooperative institutions are built on trust and confidence and play a vital role in financial inclusion.
“People are depositing their hard-earned savings in cooperative institutions and availing of loans for their needs. Hence, it is essential for cooperative leaders to be aware of legislative changes that impact operations,” he said.
Presence of dignitaries
Directors from the Dakshina Kannada District Central Cooperative Bank, including Gangadhar Shetty, Mahesh Hegde, and Ashok Kumar Shetty, were present. Cooperative Union Directors Sridhar P.S., Sudhir Y., Anil S. Pujari, Prasad S. Shetty, N. Manjaiah Shetty, Pradeep Yadiala, Arun Kumar Hegde, Karunakara Shetty, Suresh Rao, and Gopikrishna Rao also attended.
Resource persons Vishwanath Nayari, N.G. Gopal, and Bindu B. Nairy conducted sessions on cooperative sector reforms and operational best practices.
Aim of the programme
The training aimed to familiarise cooperative leaders with emerging regulatory frameworks, financial management strategies, and governance practices to strengthen the cooperative movement in the state.
