Udupi: Swaroopa T K officially assumed office as the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Udupi district on Wednesday, taking over from Vidya Kumari K. The ceremonial handover took place at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall in Manipal, where the newly appointed DC outlined her vision focused on efficiency and empathy in public administration.

In her address, Swaroopa urged government staff to approach their duties with dedication and compassion, stressing that effective governance hinges on human connection. “Udupi residents are informed, responsible citizens. It is incumbent upon us to rise to their expectations and reinforce the principles of democracy through our service,” she said. She further added that the essence of bureaucracy lies in responsive, humane administration.

Previously, Swaroopa held the post of Director of the e-Governance wing in the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department (RDPR) in Bengaluru. Her expertise in digital administration is anticipated to enhance transparency and streamline service delivery in the district.

The event also marked a farewell ceremony for outgoing DC Vidya Kumari K, who was lauded for her strong leadership and administrative acumen. In her farewell message, she credited teamwork and interdepartmental coordination for Udupi’s notable advancements.

Vidya Kumari pointed to the district’s strides in education, disaster preparedness, and healthcare infrastructure as key highlights of her tenure.

Dignitaries in attendance included Zilla Panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal, Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, and Coastal Security Police SP Mithun.
