A profound sense of grief gripped Hoode, Udupi, on Tuesday, as thousands gathered to bid a heart-wrenching farewell to beloved comedian and actor Rakesh Poojary (34), who passed away suddenly on Monday morning following a heart attack.

Following traditional rites at his residence, Poojary’s body was brought to the Hoode seashore grounds for a public viewing. The atmosphere was sombre as fans, colleagues, villagers, and celebrities came together to honour a life that brought joy to many.

Renowned filmmaker Yogaraj Bhat, overwhelmed with emotion, paid a moving tribute to Poojary, remembering him as a “vibrant and gifted artist.” Actor Master Anand, who first recognised Poojary’s talent, and actress Rakshita Prem, who frequently worked with him, also expressed their deep sorrow and admiration for his kind heart and boundless energy.

Poojary rose to prominence through Tulu reality shows like Bale Telipale and Tuyinaye Poye, and shot to wider fame after winning Comedy Kiladis Season 3 on Zee Kannada. His versatile performances in films such as Peilwan, Idu Entha Lokavayya, Petkammi, and Ammer Police won critical and public praise.

He is survived by his mother Shambhavi, sister Rakshita, and many loved ones. His sudden collapse during a mehendi function and subsequent death at Karkala Government Hospital shocked many; a case has been registered at Karkala City Police Station.

Political leaders including MP Kota Srinivas Poojary and MLA Yashpal Suvarna attended the funeral, underscoring his widespread impact.

Rakesh Poojary’s legacy of laughter, humility, and cultural contribution will continue to resonate across Karnataka. His untimely passing leaves a void not easily filled.
