Udupi: Udupi Police have arrested three persons for allegedly possessing and selling narcotic substances, including MDMA powder, MDMA tablets, hydro ganja and ganja, during a raid conducted in Shivalli village. Police seized narcotic substances, a car and other property collectively valued at approximately ₹3.31 lakh.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Udupi Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police Belliyappa K. U. and led by Malpe Police Inspector Ramachandra Nayak following credible information about illegal drug trafficking in the area.

Raid based on credible information

According to police, officials received specific information that a group of individuals was in possession of narcotic substances and was allegedly selling them to the public from a location in Shivalli village.

Acting swiftly on the information, the police team conducted a raid at the suspected location and apprehended the accused. During the search, officers recovered various banned narcotic substances along with a vehicle allegedly used for transporting the drugs.

The operation forms part of the district police’s ongoing efforts to curb the sale and distribution of narcotic substances in Udupi district.

Three accused arrested

The arrested persons have been identified as:

  • Vijaya Poojary (36), a resident of Pithrody, Udyavara
  • P. A. Mohammed Sammas (24), a resident of Harjiddu, Kukkundoor
  • Akash Shetty (20), a resident of Kuntibailu, Miyaru, Karkala

Police alleged that the trio was involved in the illegal possession and sale of narcotic substances in parts of Udupi, Kaup, Manipal and Karkala.

The accused were taken into custody and are being produced before the court for further legal proceedings.

Narcotics and vehicle seized

During the raid, police seized the following items from the accused:

  • 4 grams of MDMA powder
  • 2.5 grams of hydro ganja
  • 3.65 grams of MDMA tablets
  • 3 grams of ganja
  • A car allegedly used to transport the narcotic substances
  • Other articles connected to the offence

The total value of the seized narcotic substances, vehicle and other property has been estimated at ₹3,31,500.

Police said the seized materials have been taken into custody as evidence in the case.

NDPS case registered

A case has been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station under Crime No. 95/2026 for offences punishable under Sections 8(c), 20(c) and 22(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The investigation is continuing to determine whether the accused had links to a larger drug distribution network operating in the region.

Special police team involved

The successful operation was carried out by a special team comprising PSI Mahesh T. M. of the Udupi Traffic Police Station, Praveen Kumar of the Cyber Crime Police Station, Praveen Shettigar of Hiriyadka Police Station, and police personnel Indresh, Hanumanth Aski, Manu Kumar, Rashmi Hegde, Ravi Kumar, Srinivas, Santosh and Dinesh.

Udupi Police have reiterated their commitment to taking stringent action against drug trafficking and urged members of the public to share information regarding narcotic activities to help curb the menace.
