Udupi: A heartbreaking incident unfolded off the coast of Gangolli in Kundapur taluk, where a fishing boat overturned on Tuesday, claiming the lives of three fishermen, while one managed to survive by swimming to shore.
The victims, all residents of Gangolli, have been identified as Suresh Kharvi (48), Lohit Kharvi (34), and Jagadish Kharvi (50). Their companion, Santosh Kharvi (35), managed to swim ashore and raise the alarm.
The boat is believed to have capsized while the four were out at sea for regular fishing activity. The exact cause of the mishap remains unclear.
A massive search and rescue operation is currently underway. Personnel from the Indian Coast Guard, Gangolli police, fire and emergency services, along with local fishermen, have joined efforts to locate the missing men.
The incident has cast a shadow over the coastal community, with families and villagers anxiously awaiting news from the rescue teams.
Authorities have urged other fishermen to exercise caution amid unpredictable sea conditions.
