Police detain trio after college assault leaves student injured
Manipal police have arrested three students of Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) for allegedly attempting to grievously assault a fellow college mate on September 18. The arrested students have been identified as Rajveer Singh, Vikramveer Singh, and Krish.
According to the complaint filed with the Manipal police, the 17-year-old victim said he was verbally abused by Rajveer Singh and Vikramveer Singh while in the classroom. Around noon, the victim and his college mate, Swathik K Bhandary, were heading toward their two-wheeler to go for lunch when the incident escalated.
Alleged assault details
As the students reached their vehicle, Rajveer Singh allegedly approached and abused the victim, also snatching the two-wheeler key. Vikramveer Singh and second-year student Krish then joined Rajveer Singh. The trio reportedly pushed Swathik to the ground, assaulted him, and issued threats before leaving the scene.
Swathik was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for a dislocated left shoulder.
Legal action
The Manipal police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including:
- Section 126(2) – Wrongful restraint
- Section 117(3) – Voluntarily causing grievous hurt
- Section 351(2) – Criminal intimidation
- Section 352 – Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace
- Section 3(5) – Common intention
All three accused were arrested on September 19 and are currently in police custody.
