UDUPI: In a disturbing fallout of the Bajpe murder case, Hiriyadka police arrested two men—Sandesh (31) and Sushanth (32), both residents of Hiriyadka—for attempting to murder an auto driver on Thursday night. Udupi SP Arun K confirmed that the accused claimed their actions were a retaliatory response to the recent murder of Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru.
The incident occurred around 11:15 PM when Abubakkar (50), a resident of Badagabettu, received a call from an acquaintance, Dinesh, requesting a ride from Madaga to Athradi. While on the way, Abubakkar was tailed by two men on a motorcycle near Athradi Gas Petrol Bunk. The duo began hurling abuses and tried to intercept his autorickshaw.
The complainant continued driving but noticed the pillion rider wielding a sword-like weapon. Fearing for his life, Abubakkar stopped his vehicle near Shedigudde and attempted to escape. One of the attackers swung the sword at his head, but he dodged the strike. The second attacker shattered the auto’s front glass with a bottle.
Sensing a serious threat to his life, Abubakkar leaped over a compound wall and managed to flee. A case of attempted murder has been registered at Hiriyadka Police Station. Investigations are ongoing.
