Udupi: Hiriyadka police have arrested two men for allegedly attempting to murder a father and son during a heated dispute over the construction of a compound wall at Bommarabettu in Udupi taluk. The accused have been identified as Husain Sheikh Ahmed (74), a resident of Bommarabettu, and his son Tamim Husain Sheikh (34), a resident of Ghatkopar West in Mumbai. The incident took place on November 11, when the complainant Mohammed Rafeeq and his son Shariq were supervising the construction work near their residence.

Dispute over compound wall escalates

According to the police, the accused arrived at the site in a car and objected to the ongoing construction. An argument ensued, during which Husain and Tamim allegedly abused Rafeeq and threatened to kill him if the wall construction continued. As the confrontation intensified, the duo reportedly attempted to assault Rafeeq.

The situation turned violent when Husain allegedly stabbed Shariq multiple times on his back with a knife, causing serious injuries. Despite being attacked, Shariq managed to escape further harm and was shifted for treatment soon after.

Swift police action leads to arrests

Hiriyadka police registered a case under Sections 109, 352, 351(2), 329(3) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A police team led by PSI Puneeth Kumar B.E. arrested both accused on November 15. Police also seized the car used during the incident and an iron rod believed to have been carried by the accused.

Tamim was produced before the court on the same day and remanded in judicial custody. Husain, who complained of health issues during the medical examination, received treatment before being produced in court on November 18, after which he too was remanded.

Pedestrian killed in road accident near Kambadakone

In a separate incident, a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car at Kambadakone on Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Rama, was waiting at the western edge of the road to cross when the accident occurred.

The car, driven by Padmanabha, was travelling from Kundapur towards Byndoor when it struck Rama. Police said the impact caused severe head, limb and multiple bodily injuries. Rama was rushed to a hospital in Kundapur, where doctors examined him. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to injuries at around 11:31 am.

A case has been registered at the Byndoor police station under Sections 281 and 106 of the BNS.
