In a heartfelt gesture, the Udupi district administration handed over a compensation cheque of ₹25 lakh to the grieving family of Chinmayi Shetty — a 19-year-old engineering student from Hebri — who tragically lost her life in the recent stampede at a Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) victory celebration.

The government-sanctioned compensation was formally delivered to the family on Tuesday. District Commissioner Dr. Vidya Kumari, Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, and Assistant Commissioner Rashmi personally visited the family’s residence on Kucchur Road in Hebri taluk to present the cheque and express their condolences.

Chinmayi, the daughter of Karunakara Shetty and Pooja Shetty, often visited her maternal grandmother’s home in Madaga, Indiranagar, Hebri during school breaks, though her father’s side resides in Thippasandra, Bengaluru.

She was pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering at Jyothi Engineering College located on Kanakapura Road in Bengaluru. Known for her academic excellence and bright future, Chinmayi’s untimely demise has left her community and peers in deep mourning.

Officials stated that this compensation reflects the government’s recognition of the tragic loss and its effort to stand by the affected family during this difficult time.

The district administration has assured continued support and urged the public to prioritize safety during large public gatherings to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
