Udupi: The district administration is tirelessly working 24/7 to prevent rain-related calamities, stated Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Minister of Women and Child Development and in-charge of Udupi district.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, July 21, after visiting various rain-affected areas, the minister assessed the damages and discussed ongoing efforts with local authorities. “The Assembly session is ongoing, but I remain in constant contact with the district administration about the rain situation. Despite Sunday being a holiday, I came to check on the issues faced by the people due to heavy rains,” she said.

Minister Hebbalkar emphasized her availability during emergencies, stating, “The district administration and government are working around the clock to ensure there is no trouble and to prevent any loss of life.”

She highlighted proactive measures taken to mitigate risks: “I held a district-level precautionary meeting 25 days ago, recommending the removal of dangerous trees. As a result, the forest department has cleared 500 to 600 trees. I also instructed Mescom to clear wires near schools, which has been done. Drainage issues in the city have been addressed, and footbridges are secure. The district administration has opened a helpline and ensured fair compensation for rain damage.”

Deputy Commissioner Dr. K Vidya Kumari, Superintendent of Police Dr. K Arun, Zilla Panchayat CEO Pratheek Bayal, Assistant Commissioner Kundapura S R Rashmi, and DFO Ganapathi accompanied the minister during her visit.
