Udupi: A private bus driver identified as Devaraj was arrested by authorities for reckless driving, following a disturbing incident involving a Sri Durgamba bus near Bannanje Jayalakshmi Silk.
The incident unfolded when Devaraj, driving at excessive speed from the Karavali Bypass toward Udupi, reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to come to a sudden halt in the middle of the road. In a further display of negligence, he allegedly turned the bus around and began driving in the opposite direction, back toward Udupi.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers, avoiding what could have been a serious accident.
CCTV and mobile footage of the incident quickly went viral on social media, triggering immediate public outrage and prompting swift intervention by law enforcement. The Udupi Traffic Police acted promptly, arresting the driver and impounding the bus.
A formal case has been filed, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the full scope of violations and potential endangerment caused by the driver’s actions.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of safe public transport operations, warning that strict action will be taken against irresponsible drivers.
