Udupi: With heavy rains lashing the district and a red alert issued by the IMD, Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K has declared a holiday for anganwadis, primary, and high schools on Thursday.
Colleges, however, will remain operational, but attendance has been made optional—particularly for students from flood-prone or vulnerable areas. The DC emphasized that student safety is the top priority.
To make up for the lost academic time, schools have been instructed to conduct additional classes on Saturday afternoons. College administrations have been directed not to hold sessions in structurally unsafe or damaged buildings.
Vidya Kumari also stressed the importance of safe transport for students and urged both parents and educational institutions to ensure that children do not visit riversides, low-lying zones, seashores, or any other potentially hazardous spots during this weather.
Authorities remain on alert and continue to monitor the evolving situation to take necessary precautionary steps.
