Udupi Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K. emphasized the need for continuous care for pregnant women and newborns to prevent maternal mortality and ensure improved public health outcomes. Speaking at a meeting of various coordination committees of the health department at Rajatadri, she highlighted the importance of implementing government healthcare schemes effectively, ensuring that the benefits reach the people in a timely manner. She noted that the government has initiated several programs aimed at improving healthcare services, and their proper execution is crucial to achieving the desired health goals, including zero maternal mortality.

The Deputy Commissioner also stressed the need for effective and scientific disposal of biomedical waste generated by health institutions, warning against the environmental impact of improperly discarded medical waste such as syringes, medicine bottles, and diapers, which can pollute rivers and harm ecosystems. She urged public awareness campaigns to educate people on the safe disposal of medical waste, particularly in households.

Additionally, she called for surprise inspections at scanning centers to detect illegal activities such as female foeticide and gender detection, and strict action against offenders. She also highlighted the increasing patient preference for treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka scheme, advocating for the empanelment of new multi-specialty hospitals to expand access. She stressed the importance of timely vaccination, early detection of leprosy, and intensifying efforts to eradicate tuberculosis, which has seen 45,857 BCG registrations in the district. Authorities were instructed to focus on child healthcare, especially for children affected by HIV, and to raise awareness about AIDS among the youth.
