Udupi: The 2024-25 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Udupi District Cooperative Union was held at the Ajjarkad Town Hall on Tuesday. The meeting focused on the development of the cooperative sector, legal measures for disputes, and deliberations on reservation policies.

Legal action for cooperative sector issues

Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of the Udupi District Cooperative Union, presided over the meeting and assured that any problems arising in the cooperative sector would first be addressed through people’s representatives. If issues remain unresolved, legal action will be pursued through the courts. He also highlighted that the union has provided Rs. 2.60 lakh as an education fund to the Mahamandal in the district.

Reservation in cooperatives under discussion

MLA and Cooperative Union Director Yash Pal Suvarna emphasised that any decision to implement reservation in the cooperative sector must be preceded by thorough discussions of its pros and cons. He suggested that government department accounts should be allowed to operate in cooperative banks first, and then the implications of reservation could be considered. Suvarna noted that careful planning is necessary to ensure the cooperative sector grows sustainably in the future.

The meeting saw participation from Vice President Ashok Kumar Ballal, Directors Gangadhar Shetty, A. Harish Kini, Sridhar PS, Sudhir Y, Anil S Poojary, Prasad S. Shetty, N. The Chief Executive Officer, Anusha Kotian, welcomed attendees and presented the annual report, detailing the union’s activities and achievements for the year.
