Udupi: Local MLA Yashpal Suvarna has strongly criticized the FIR filed against former Karnataka minister Pramod Madhwaraj, alleging that the police acted under political pressure from the Congress-led government.
Police Action Questioned
Suvarna questioned why the Dalit Atrocities Act was invoked against fisherwomen, claiming it was done at the behest of the state government. He accused authorities of trying to silence voices supporting the fishing community, particularly after the assault case involving a woman tied to a tree at Malpe port.
“Police a Puppet of the Government”
The MLA alleged that the police department is being manipulated by the ruling party, further claiming that the government is displaying indifference toward fishermen’s issues. He warned that the coastal community’s patience was wearing thin and that the people of Udupi would soon deliver a strong response.
Case Against Madhwaraj
Malpe police registered a suo motu case against Madhwaraj for making an allegedly provocative speech during the fishermen’s protest at Malpe port on Saturday.
