Udupi: A 27-year-old model from Kalmady died by suicide at her residence on Tuesday, August 6. The deceased was identified as Krithi Bangera, a former hotel employee who had been actively pursuing an interest in modelling.
Krithi had been staying with her mother and sister at their residence in Kalmady. According to her family, she had quit her job at a hotel in Manipal around a month ago and had been staying at home since then.
The incident came to light after family members became concerned when she did not respond to repeated attempts to contact her inside her room.
Family raises concerns over recent stress
According to family members, Krithi had appeared to be under considerable stress during the past few days.
She had lunch with her mother on Tuesday afternoon. Later, while speaking on the phone, she reportedly told her mother that she intended to end her life before going into her bedroom and locking the door.
Family members said Krithi had made similar statements in the past and that her mother initially did not believe the situation was immediately serious.
However, when there was no response from the room for a prolonged period despite repeated knocks, the family became alarmed. They subsequently found her unresponsive inside the room.
The family alerted the authorities, following which police initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Former hotel employee had interest in modelling
Krithi had previously worked at a hotel in Manipal but had left the job about a month before the incident.
Family members said she was interested in modelling and had been pursuing opportunities in the field.

Malpe Police register case
A case has been registered at Malpe Police Station based on a complaint filed by Krithi’s sister.
