Udupi: In a remarkable display of strength and determination, 47-year-old Gulshan Kazi has emerged as one of India’s most inspiring powerlifters. A mother of three and a corporate professional currently based in the UAE, she has not only excelled in her career and family life but also carved a place in the record books of Indian powerlifting.

Gulshan began her journey in 2019, taking up powerlifting as a serious sport relatively late in life. Within a few years, she proved her mettle by winning a National Gold Medal and setting an Asian record with a 208 kg deadlift — the highest lift by any Indian athlete across age and weight categories under Powerlifting India.

Representing India internationally

Earlier this year, Gulshan represented India at the Asian Championships in Japan, where her performance drew wide acclaim. She is now preparing for the World Championships to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, in October 2025, where she aims to secure another podium finish for the country.

Balancing roles and breaking stereotypes

Gulshan’s journey is not just about records but also about resilience and balance. After managing her corporate responsibilities, she dedicates herself to a rigorous training regime. Her story challenges age-related stereotypes and proves that it is never too late to chase one’s passion and excel at the highest level.

Inspiring others through her journey

Beyond the competitive arena, Gulshan shares her experiences and training insights on social media. Through posts detailing her struggles and triumphs, she has inspired countless women and aspiring athletes to pursue fitness and strength sports, regardless of age or background.
