Udupi: Members of the Muslim community in Udupi held a peaceful human chain protest on Friday, voicing strong opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act 2025. The demonstration, organized by Udupi Jamia Masjid and Udupi Anjuman Masjid, followed the Friday namaz and drew hundreds of participants.
Salahuddin Abdullah, representing the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), condemned the amendment, stating, “This law affects 20 to 30 crore Muslims nationwide. It unjustly targets ancestral Waqf properties given for religious and charitable causes. These lands are being taken over without consent. We demand the immediate withdrawal of this unconstitutional law.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Shahid Ali from the State SDPI, highlighted the unified response from the Muslim community. “This symbolic chain is a collective message to the government. We stand firm with the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board in rejecting the amendment. The protest will continue until the Act is rolled back,” he declared.
The protest involved participants forming a long human chain along city streets, holding placards with slogans demanding justice and reversal of the law. The gathering remained peaceful and concluded with a renewed call for government action.
