Udupi: In connection with two back-to-back incidents that took place on July 20 at Siri Mudi Hotel in Santhekatte, Kalthur, the Udupi police have arrested four individuals, including three with criminal backgrounds. The events fall under the jurisdiction of Hebri Police Station.
According to police sources, a violent assault occurred involving rowdy-sheeters Srikant Kulal and Sadanand Poojary, along with Santosh Naik, who allegedly attacked Rajesh Naik—also a known rowdy element. Rajesh Naik sustained serious injuries in the attack and is receiving treatment at the Udupi District Government Hospital.
Shortly after the incident, Santosh Naik lodged a separate complaint with Hebri Police, alleging that Rajesh Naik had made caste-based derogatory remarks against him during the altercation. Police registered a second case under provisions of caste-based discrimination laws.
Following investigation, officers arrested:
-
Srikant Kulal (29) of Santhekatte,
Santosh Naik (43) of Kenjoor, and
Sadanand Poojary (46) of Santhekatte — in connection with the attempt to murder case.
Additionally, Rajesh Naik (30) of Santhekatte was arrested in relation to the caste abuse complaint.
Police confirmed that all four individuals have prior criminal records registered at the Hebri station. They were produced in court and have been placed in judicial custody as the investigation progresses.
Authorities are continuing to probe both the physical assault and caste-based slur allegations to determine the full sequence of events and legal culpability.
