Arrests and seizures
The Udupi district police arrested Jaid Mohammad alias Jaid Khan (19), a native of Rajasthan, along with a minor, in connection with an online fraud case.
Police said they seized five mobile phones and ₹2 lakh in cash from their possession. Several others involved in the racket are still at large, according to Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar.
How the case unfolded
The case was registered at the CEN police station after a complainant reported being targeted in an online fraud.
Police said the complainant was first contacted via Facebook, followed by a video call. During the call, the complainant’s image was allegedly manipulated into an obscene clip and used for extortion.
Over multiple transactions, the complainant was coerced into transferring a total of ₹4.44 lakh.
Investigation and arrest
A special police team led by CEN Inspector Ramachandra Naik and PSI Harish traced the accused. The duo was apprehended near the Madgaon railway station in Goa.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to locate the remaining accused.
