In a late-night raid on Friday, Udupi Town police rescued a woman allegedly forced into prostitution at a house in Sharada Nagar, Shivalli village.
Acting on a tip-off, police inspector, accompanied by panchayat members and officers, conducted the operation. Investigations revealed that Satish, the prime accused, lured the woman with a job offer and sent her from Moodbidri to Shrilatha’s residence in Sharada Nagar. Once there, she was forcibly confined and coerced into sex work for financial exploitation.
The accused ran the illegal racket by holding the victim captive. Following her rescue, a case was registered at the Women’s police station under Section 143(2) of the BNS and Sections 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
Authorities have intensified efforts to crack down on human trafficking, urging the public to report suspicious activities.
