Udupi: In a major corruption crackdown, the Lokayukta police apprehended Ashok Poojary, an Assistant Engineer with MESCOM in Brahmavar, red-handed while he was receiving a bribe of ₹20,000. The bribe was allegedly demanded in exchange for providing an electricity connection to a residence.

The complaint was filed by Dinesh Poojary, who had approached Ashok Poojary to request a new power connection for his house. After visiting the site for inspection, the engineer reportedly demanded a bribe to proceed with the connection process.
